Every adult needs their own space, but what many people don't realize is that kids can often benefit from having a designated area that they can call all their own. Kids need a space that is appropriate in scale in which to explore and learn about their world while being safe and protected.

What do they like to do in their very own space? Small children seem to love drawing or painting, whether it's a picture of Mom, one of Dad, or their sister or brother, or sometimes it can be a favorite teacher. And when their creations are hung for display on the refrigerator door, they are so pleased and proud.

Having a space that is all their own is an important factor in a young child's life. This is the space they feel safe to read, play, imagine, or even create their own world to escape into. What's really important is they can be as creative as they want to!

This space could best be described as a creative station. For the most important and personal place for a child, it is very important that the furniture fit properly -- a kids table and chair set are perfect. By utilizing a kids table and chair set, you are allowing for the possibility of a friend being invited into the space where creativity is allowed to flow unchecked. There should be supplies on hand to encourage creativity and play; an art set, a puzzle, books, etc.

Young children love doing things that are creative, and in the process they discover more about the surroundings in their world. When you design a room for your child, do so with them in your mind. Most importantly, remember how much smaller in stature your child is than you, so be sure to create a space in their room that they are able to relate to.

Use the idea of a tree house to provide the inspiration for your child's room for helping you to visualize things on their level. Consider hanging pictures lower so that they are closer to to a child's eye-level. Bring the scale of the room to their size!

A child's room is the place where they can grow in mind as well as in body. Help them discover the world around them and give them the keys to lead a happy life!
